A friendly reminder from me!
• You are not alone • It sounds obvious but I can guarantee we have all felt alone at one time or another, even if you are stood in a room full of people. It's only when we start to open up and share our experiences that we realise we really do have so much more in common than we ever thought possible. Social media has a bad reputation but personally, it's been a lifeline at times for me. The support I've received from people I have found online suffering from the same conditions as me has, quite literally, saved me. I'm in the lucky position to pay that forward now. What kind of support would you appreciate? A DM conversation? An online course? A website full of hints, tips and helpful advice to navigate your mental health alongside your chronic illnesses? I plan to offer all of these but would love to hear what you want and need!
This week on thespooniemummy.com I've blogged about the fun we had with a special delivery from @zimplikids (ad/gifted) and about what to eat when you have an ostomy which was a collaboration with the lovely @ibdwarriorprincess Head over to the blog to check them out
Frozen 2! Well, wow! I absolutely loved it. Not as much as the first but I still loved it. Wasn't as much of a fan of the songs but did like Into The Unknown and Anna's one at the beginning. Olaf's song was rubbish this time but he really did make me laugh (and cry) - did you know turtles breathe out their bottoms?! Well done @disney - another fantastic movie and well worth a watch if you haven't been already!
Still not feeling too great! Not been 'normal people ill' for a while and I hate it! Last night I was worried it might be going on to my chest but I think it was just because it had been a busy afternoon and I needed some rest. My chest doesn't feel nearly as bad today so that's good!! At least I'm hopefully getting it out of the way before Christmas!
So you may know I'm studying for my psychology degree part time with the @theopenuniversity My aim is to become a psychotherapist and work with people diagnosed with chronic illnesses, supporting their mental health. It's an area which often severely impacts on the life of a Spoonie, but isn't placed very highly on the list of priorities for the medical profession who tend to focus on our physical symptoms. I'm over half way through my degree and loving it. I've also studied various other at home courses that are counseling related. I know however, my own experience will be what helps inform my practice the most. To that end - be prepared for more mental health topics cropping up on the blog and social media next year. I thought I'd have to wait for my degree to be finished, but then I plan to soy Masters, and in fact, learning will never end for me. So I'm starting on my journey now, because I want to help as many people as I can.
