Santa’s Lost Elves*
A Funny Christmas Holiday Storybook Adventure for Kids
by Rachel Hilz

The Blurb
Ho-Ho-Hold onto your Santa hats as Santa’s Lost Elves delivers holiday cheer from new heights.
Join Santa’s journey as his sleigh becomes a rescue vehicle. Enjoy the excitement as Santa, Bucky, and the rest of the reindeer take flight on a mission to retrieve the elves from atop a broken ski lift.
Through this snowy storytime adventure, kids will learn that, even when things don’t go according to plan, friends and teamwork can turn any challenge into a frosty, fun-filled adventure. So grab your earmuffs and your sense of humor. Santa’s Lost Elves will have you laughing all the way to the North Pole.
What I Thought
Another fun Christmas tale and this time it is the elves who get lost!
I love the rhyming pattern which mimics ‘Twas The Night Before Christmas’ and the illustrations are fun. One slight issue – Santa’s best reindeer is obviously Rudolph but in this story it is Bucky – for rhyming purposes I think but it might confuse some kids!
Despite this I think this is a great little picture book that kids will enjoy in the lead up to Christmas.

Santa and My Five Wishes
by Omotayo Madojutimi

The Blurb
Sarah asks her mother when it’s time to tell Santa her five wishes, but each time she’s ready, Santa is nowhere to be found! When Christmas day arrives she’s greeted with a surprise!
What I Thought
This is a sweet story with a lovely message – that sometimes it is the little things and the people around you that make Christmas, rather than material gifts.
While heartwarming, I am not sure it would be relatable for everyone. Sarah’s Dad is in the military and not everyone will get their wish to have their parent home for Christmas.
However, it is a nice reminder for children that not all kids will get to spend Christmas with their parents and reinforces the story’s message.

The Magic Faraway Tree: A Christmas Adventure
by Jacqueline Wilson

The Blurb
Explore the much-loved Magic Faraway Tree at the most special time of the year. This brand-new story by superstar author Jacqueline Wilson is set in the original world created by Enid Blyton.
Milo, Mia and Birdy are excited to return to the cottage beside the Enchanted Wood for Christmas. They can’t wait to visit their magical friends Silky the fairy and Moonface again. Which amazing worlds will arrive at the top of the Faraway Tree at this time of year? The children are hoping for a trip to the Land of Presents or perhaps the Land of Snow. But before they can celebrate, there is a chilling visit to the Land of the Frozen North . . .
The Magic Faraway Tree by Enid Blyton was Jacqueline Wilson’s own favourite book as a young child. Now Britain’s favourite contemporary children’s author, creator of Hetty Feather and Tracy Beaker, is revisiting it in her second wonderful book about this magical world.
What I Thought
The Magic Faraway Tree is a classic by Enid Blyton, loved by so many. Jacqueline Wilson is a great author and I read a few of her books when I was younger. Wilson does a fantastic job of bringing some festive magic to the classic and I loved it.
I’d recommend reading The Magic Faraway Tree before reading this if you haven’t already, but you don’t need to. However, knowing the original story will help you appreciate the referees to Blyton’s original characters which are lovely.
Wilson has done a great job of bringing the magic of the original story up to date with a festive twist, which will bring a whole new generation into this magical world. Loved it and highly recommend!

Meow-y Christmas!
What I Thought
This is a fun and cute Christmas story that young children will enjoy in the lead up to Christmas.
The illustrations are fun and bright and the grumpy cat is funny. If you have a cat so much of the story will be relatable I am sure! Great story with a good twist at the end!

Santa Goes on Strike
by Jem Vanston

The Blurb
Santa is depressed. Tired of the selfishness and greed of people, he decides to go on strike. But what will the reindeer do? It’s their duty to deliver presents to the world’s children every Christmas.
Santa Goes on Strike is a funny and heart-warming poem for both children and adults that has been called ‘a modern classic’. It also aims to raise awareness of depression.
Recommended to be read aloud every Christmas!
What I Thought
Books that rhyme are always a winner for me and this one is fab! A great story with a solid message that makes a perfect read for this time of year. The illustrations are fun and both adults and children alike will enjoy the reminders that the story gives – what Christmas is really about!
A great addition to any Christmas bookshelf this year!
