When I was contacted and asked if I would be interested in coming to watch the Three Inch Fools performing a show about Henry VIII, at the stunning location of Hardwick Hall… how could I say no?!
Anyone who knows me will know I am a history fan and one of my favourite periods to read, study and watch things about is the Tudors. Ever since I received my first Horrible Histories book – The Terrible Tudors – I have read, listened and watched everything I can about them.
About the Fools

The Three Inch Fools have been performing together since 2015. Their performances are fast-paced and inventive, and they use music to bring their shows to life.
The Show
This Summer the Three Inch Fools are touring two shows – Henry VIII’s Secret Diary and Shakespeare’s The Comedy of Errors. I of course, chose to go and see the Henry VIII show as I love anything to do with the Tudors.

They are performing in a huge range of stunning, open air venues including stately homes, walled gardens, castles and ruined cathedrals. We went to see them at the stunning Hardwick Hall and it was a beautiful evening for it. We took a picnic and were seated on arrival by the lovely volunteers. I grabbed a programme which was £2 (I believe there was a discount if you bought two) and we sat scoffing our goodies in the last of the evening sunshine before the show started.
The show itself started at 7pm and we were treated to over two hours of action from the fabulous four actors telling the story. They sang, played instruments and made us laugh out loud during the show and we loved it! It told the story of Henry’s life from becoming king, following the untimely death of his older brother, Arthur, to his final days married to the last of his six wives, Kateryn Parr.
Some of my favourite performances were of the wives (extremely funny) and the actor playing Henry was amazing, leading the show. The actors involved some of the audience (including me and Tom having to hide one of them under our picnic blanket) and that always brought more laughs.

The evening flew by and we both loved the show. The Three Inch Fools tour continues until September and they are at some incredible venues, all over the country, between now and then. Check out the show schedule here to see where and when they are performing in the next three months.
I’d like to say a huge thank you for these tickets. It was a great evening, full of history, fun, laughs and music and it was a pleasure coming to watch and write this review. The gorgeous Hardwick Hall was the most amazing backdrop for the show and we were treated to a beautiful sunset as we left after the show. I’d highly recommend a visit to watch this amazing travelling show – obviously I’d recommend the Henry VIII show as we both really enjoyed it but I am sure The Comedy Of Errors is great too!
Take care and enjoy the show!
