The Spoonie Mummy Reviews – Zimpli Kids

Good morning and happy Wednesday! Today I have an exciting post to share with you – my review of the Zimpli Kids bath products. We have previously purchased these products but were kindly sent a box of goodies from them to try out just before Christmas. The boys were super excited and grateful to say the least!

Zimpli Kids

Zimpli Kids is a relatively new company which designs and supplies innovative, fun kids toy products. Their products include a play range, outside range and a bath time range.

Bath Tine!

We have previously used the Gelli Baff and Crackle Baff products. Riley is a bit funny with the textures of certain things so I thought he my not enjoy the feeling of the Gelli Bff, but after a nervous start, he actually really loved it! Even I ended up with my hands in there, playing with them! It is available in different colours so the kids can choose their favourite.

The Crackle Bath effect is good, but short. However, there are multiple packets in the box so you can do this more often. Riley really enjoys this one and it is the least messy option!

We got to try the Slime Baff just before Christmas and if you follow me on Instagram you will have seen how much fun the boys had! It also featured in the weekly vlog over on my YouTube channel. I found the Slime Baff needed a little more cleaning power to remove from the boys, particularly the hair, but it washed out of the bath really easily.

Cleaning

To clean these products from the bath, you just have to add more water and it rinses down the plughole. There is barely any residue left and I just rinsed the bath with the shower head and you couldn’t tell what had been in there just five minutes before!

We are really looking out to trying out the Snoball play next We will be sure to share our fun on the social media pages. I couldn’t recommend these products more, they are really great and so different to other things available. They are 100% safe and boron free which is reassuring. They are also well priced, and perfect for stocking fillers and little treats. They would be great for kids to save up pocket money for too. I think we will get the glitter one next as you cannot beat a bit of sparkle and the Smelli Baff too! We are also looking forward to the new Baff Bombs which should be out soon.

Where To Buy

You can purchase these products in The Entertainer, Smyths Toy Superstore, Ryman, Asda/Walmart and Claire’s. You can find the links to these places here

Have you tried any of these yet? Which was your kids favourites? Let me know in the comments below,

#tubieweek – The Spoonie Mummy Reviews – INGA Wellbeing

Good morning and welcome to another #tubieweek post.  Today I want to introduce you all to INGA Wellbeing.

The Problem With What To Wear In Hospital

Anybody who has spent time in hospital will know the daily nightmare that is trying to be comfortable in what you are wearing.  Finding something that keeps you at a comfortable temperature, maintains your decency and that is functional – accounting for all the wires and tubes you may be hooked up to – can be difficult.  From a mental health point of view you also want to look half decent for when you have people visiting and for your own self confidence.

Hospital gowns are often only available in limited sizes.  They also tend to not fasten well, accounting for tubes and wires by exposing parts of you that you would rather keep covered, especially when you are in a multi bedded bay!  To keep covered you are often given two, one to put on front wards and one to go on backwards – this can result in you getting very hot.  I often prefer wearing my own pyjamas and nighties but when you are hooked up to IVs they aren’t always suitable.  You end up not being able to remove the item of clothing, or can’t put it on properly.

INGA Wellbeing

“INGA Wellbeing has combined personal experience, expert medical advice and fashion design talent to create comfortable, attractive and functional patient clothing solutions that really work for ALL medical conditions and throughout patients’ treatment journeys.”

INGA have come up with a fantastic range of clothes for patients which addresses all these issues.  Features include

  • Discreet openings for IV lines, drains, monitors, examinations, treatments and massages

  • Full arm opening enables independent dressing and undressing (for many) even with IV lines

  • Interior pockets to hold drains, syringe drivers etc securely & discreetly

  • Exterior pockets

  • Soft, gently elasticated fabric.  Made from natural fibres, washable at 40 degrees C

  • Wrap design and/or poppers to adjust size

  • No metal parts so can be worn safely during MRIs etc

#tubieweek

So how does this fit in with #tubieweek?  Well, this issue is not just one for in patients.  Some people, such as my boyfriend Ste, have to have IV’s running at home too.  People who are tube and TPN fed also have difficulties with finding functional and comfortable clothing they can use when hooked up to their feeds/treatments.

INGA Wellbeing kindly sent over one of their men’s long sleeved tops for Ste to try out and he was eager to give it a go.  The package arrived quickly (they offer worldwide, free shipping) and it was nicely wrapped in tissue paper so would be perfect if sending to someone as a gift.  I was immediately impressed when I took it out of the packet.  It was so super soft and the  soft grey colour was really lovely.  They also have navy option and a dusky pink colour in the women’s clothes. There are different options for men and women and they include trousers, long and short sleeved tops and dresses.

Ste’s Thoughts

I think they are brilliant!  Comfortable, lightweight, easily accessible for all my tubes.  I spend a lot of time in pyjamas or lounge wear but it can be a pain to have my TPN or fluids running in them, so often end up not having a top on which then makes me cold and uncomfortable around others who can see all my tubes and bag on show.  I also use my jejunostomy tube to take a lot of my medications and with the INGA top I don’t have to undress to do this as it just hangs out the side.  I really want to get a pair of the trousers too as this would make daily life so much easier for me.

Visit the INGA Wellbeing store

INGA Wellbeing have kindly sent me a code so my lovely readers can receive 10% off their order – just use spooniemummy18 when checking out for your discount to be applied (this is an affiliate code so I may receive some commission from people using this. It doesn’t affect your purchase in anyway apart from saving you money but I need to make you aware)

I hope you enjoyed our review.  Me and Ste were both really impressed and will definitely be shopping with them again in the future.  I really like the idea that you can buy gift cards too.  It is often difficult to think of how to treat a person who is ill or in hospital, and this would be perfect for them to get something lovely, but useful too!

The Spoonie Mummy Reviews – Ecovacs Deebot Osmo 610

Following my post, Handy Hacks For People With Arthritis, I was contacted by the lovely people over at Ecovacs.  They make and sell robotic hoovers and wanted to ask if I would like to test one out – of course I said yes!

deebot2

Another Handy Hack

Ecovacs had seen my post and felt that their hoover would be a really good idea for people who struggled with mobility issues like I do.  Hoovering can be a very physical and tiring job.  The Deebot is a robotic hoover which not only vacuums, it also mops!  Saving me from these housework tasks sounds like a dream come true and we eagerly awaited our robot’s arrival.

Setting The Deebot Up

I was slightly worried about this bit as I am not very technically minded, but luckily I have a Ste!  He said it was really simple though, and it was sorted in no time!  The Deebot’s ‘home’ docking station needs to be placed somewhere the bot can get itself back to, and needs to be plugged in as this is where he charges.  There are a number of options including doing the edges of your room as well as an all over vacuum.

Using The Deebot

You can control the bot using the buttons on the actual bot, the remote control or the app which you can download from the Apple or Android store.  We generally set it up when we go to bed to hoover the living room and although we still need to occasionally get the big hoover out, we probably only need to do that once  every week or two as opposed to every other day.  The bot doesn’t always manage to get over our rug and if it cannot go over it, will think it is a wall and then only do half of the room which is a bit annoying.  Even though our living room is set out with our sofa in the middle of the floor, it manages to get all the way around  which is impressive.  It also leaves the carpet really fluffy.  The hoover is really quiet too, even though we have the suction on high.  It is compact so fits neatly out of the way when not in use.

When Ste was recently in hospital, I told him I needed to hoover when I got home from visiting him.  I returned home to a beautifully clean carpet – he had set the bot going using the app on his phone when I left which was brilliant!

Mopping With The Deebot

Changing the Deebot to the mop setting is easy to do and does not take long.  The floor does not get overly wet so it does need doing by hand once a week still, but this is perfect for the in between cleans.  Because it does not get too wet, it is easy to set up and do in the day, as if you have to walk over it, you do not need to worry about slipping over.

Would I Recommend?

The Deebot is a big investment money wise, but without a doubt I think it is a fantastic aid.  It is perfect for people with arthritis and other chronic illnesses who have affected mobility or struggle with lots of household chores.  It would also be great for parents and people who work – the bot can be set to hoover while you are out so you can return to a lovely clean carpet every day.

Where To Buy The Deebot

Check out the website

I am really grateful to Ecovacs for getting in touch and sending me this amazing device – it has helped me so much to keep the house clean and tidy, saved me time and helped save my poor joints.  I am also delighted to announce that Ecovacs have agreed to host a competition with me for one of my lovely readers to win their own Deebot!  Keep your eyes peeled across my social media (@thespooniemummy)  in the next couple of weeks for the announcement!

I hope you have enjoyed this review and agree wioth me about it being a great aid for people with disabilities.  I really am amazed at the opportunities I have come across through blogging, and love getting to share things that I really think will benefit my readers.  Have a great weekend everyone,

Back To School for £50 Or Less?

Good morning and happy Monday!  We have had a fun filled weekend and are ready for another busy week!  Hope you all had a good one?

I received an email from Pep & Co/Poundland last week and was delighted – anyone who follows me on Instagram will see me posting my #whatostomateswear post most days and know I wear a lot of their clothes.  I swear by their high-waisted jeans – definitely the comfiest I have found!  We also get quite a lot of the kids bits in there.

The Mission…Should You Choose To Accept It

cof

The email was telling me all about the new school uniform and items they have in their stores currently and set me a challenge – to kit out a child for school for £50 or less!  Any one with children will know how expensive a new term can be and I regularly fork out well over £100 per child so this intrigued me… could it really be done?

Challenge Accepted!

Of course I had to give it a go, so on Saturday we headed to the local store we tend to use at the entrance to the Intu Derby centre.  The store was well stocked with a good range of sizes.  There were lots of different options including shirts and polo shirts, pinafore dresses and tights.

Uniform

The items are of lovely quality and do not feel cheap at all.  I find that the boys either grow out of their uniform or get it ditched (irreparably) after a few months, so spending less on items like polo shirts suits me better as I know these will need replacing at some point throughout the school year.  The polo shirts are available in white and light blue and are £1 each!  They can be bought separately or in two packs..

I personally did not pick up any sweatshirts as the boys school asks that they wear the ones with their logo on.  However, they are available in blue, red and black for just £2 each.  A great alternative to the more expensive school branded ones or good to have as a back up just in case.

cof

Trousers can be the bane of my life.  Both my boys have gone through phases of having tiny waists but long legs!  Leo is more in proportion now but Riley struggles to get a size that is long enough to suit his leg length which aren’t then too big for his waist.  I was really pleased to see that the Pep & Co trousers have adjustable waists in them.  The smaller sizes were just £3 and the bigger ones were £3.50 and were available in grey and black.  Skirts and pinafore dresses were also on sale.

The shoe range wasn’t huge but I loved these ones I picked up for Riley – super smart and he said they were very comfy and made him run really fast!  The girls shoes were cute too.  At  only £8 these are perfect for quick growing feet (and football players) who will need new ones at a rapid rate.

Socks (5 pack) and tights (2 pack) were also available in grey and black.  There were girls socks with a slight frill to the top as well.

The boys PE kits are bought from school too but they are encouraged to take in tracksuit tops and joggers for the Winter and for outside PE sessions.  Pep & Co had these lovely, soft tracksuits in grey, black, navy and blue.  The tops were £5 and the bottoms £4.  They also had PE pumps in a range of sizes for just £3.50.

Trying It On

As you can see, Riley got right into the modelling game for you all!  He loved taking these pictures, even if he was a little wary at first!  He is wearing size 7-8 shirt, polo shirt and trousers and size 13 shoes.

Stationery

Leo picked up some stationery items too.  There was a range of sets with different characters on containing all the basic items for just £1 which is great value.  Leo wanted to get the separate bits so he chose the ones he wanted, but you could have definitely saved more here by buying a set.

The Bill

I was dubious heading into this challenge as, like I said previously, I generally spend over £100 on each of boys easily when it comes to school shopping.  However, the quality of the Pep & Co uniform pieces are still great and they were such amazing prices!  I do find sizing up in there is generally better  and you will want your little ones with your to try shoes and things on.

So how did I get on?  Could you get everything you need for £50 or less?

pep &co

I did it!!!  With enough to spare for a lunchbox or a little rucksack.  I wanted to also mention the coats they had in there – these were available in khaki and navy and I thought they were lovely and only £12 – definitely something I will be picking up when the weather starts to get cooler!

cof

I was so pleased with my little haul and really happy to be able to share this with you and hopefully help you save some money too!  Let me know if you try out your local Pep&Co and Poundland and what you are loving in there at the moment in the comments below,

Everyday Morning Skincare & Make Up Routine

Good morning and happy Friday – here is to the beginning of the weekend!  I am looking forward to another sunshine filled weekend and hope you have lots to look forward to as well!

Today I am sharing my everyday morning skincare and make up routine with you.  This post is sponsored by latestdeals.co.uk and you can find all their make up deals at the link below.  They have some fantastic offers and total bargains on their websaite so definitely one to check out if you want to try something new!

https://www.latestdeals.co.uk/tags/make-up

I am no beauty or makeup expert but have found some great products that seem to work well for me.  I have dry, sometimes sensitive skin which can be a pain.  I am obviously in my thirties now so taking care of my skin has become even more important to me lately.  If you are interested in seeing my evening routine which is when I focus more on skincare, please let me know in the comments below.

Everyday Morning Skincare and Make Up Routine

My favourite skincare products have been from Nivea and Simple and this has been the case for many years.  I will take off my make up in the evening and so in the morning will generally just use  a cleansing wipe or my Simple Micellar Water and Toner.  I know cleansing wipes are not the best thing to use but they are great for convenience, for taking with me when travelling or staying at Ste’s and as I do a proper skincare routine in the evening to remove my make up, I don’t think I need to worry too much about using them in the morning. I generally purchase my cotton wool pads from Primark as they are nice and cheap, and will often get my cleansing wipes from there too.  I tend to use the moisturiser pictured from Nivea which is super hydrating and always leaves my skin feeling well moisturised.  Ut also contains an SPF which is important for me, particularly in this weather,.  Some of the medication I use can make your skin more sensitive to the sun.  Although I do not seem to suffer with that, I like to make sure I stay protected anyway.

I generally wait about ten minutes after moisturising before I start putting other products on my face.  This gives the moisturiser time to sink in and I tend to get dressed while I wait.  Primer comes next but to be honest, I have never found one that seems to make a lot of difference to my skin.  A couple of months ago I picked this up from Loreal.  It is their CC cream and I have found it works really well to even out my skin tone and reduce any redness I can get through my skin being a bit sensitive.  My make up seems to apply really well over the top too.  As you can see, my tube is almost empty but I will definitely be repurchasing this one!  I featured this in my February Favourites post which you can read here.

I do use an eye primer though as my eyelids are quite dark and they do get greasy.  This one from MUA evens out and lightens the colour of them and makes sure my eyeshadow isn’t sliding off after a couple of hours!  It was really cheap but does the job I need it to.

I will sometimes just use the CC cream and won’t add any foundation but if I do, my go to daily foundations at the moment are the Revolution Fast Base Foundation Stick and the Bourjois Healthy Mix Serum Foundation.  I love the speed and easiness of the Revolution one, and the fact you can apply it just where you need it.  I purchased the Bourjois one after seeing a YouTube recommendation by Pixiwoo  and have been really pleased with it.  I went for the serum formula due to my dry skin and have found it works really well for me.

cof

Next up concealer and this is one of my must haves due to my very dark circles. No matter how much sleep I seem to get, they rarely ever look better!  My two favourites are these ones from Bourjois and Collection Lasting Perfection.  I apply in a triangle under my eyes and pop a bit on my nose and the centre of my forehead.

I have a huge selection of eyeshadow palettes but my favourites have to be my Revolution ones!  I don’t always wear eyeshadow for everyday but if I do, these will generally be my go to.  Neutral browns, pink or peachy shades tend to be the everyday colour I go for.

cof

For the rest of my face I tend to use just a bit of blusher and highlighter for everyday.  The photograph shows a few of my faves.  If I am staying at Ste’s or away somewhere I tend to take my Primark PS Chocolate Cheek Palette as it has a couple of blush colours and a highlighter so I don’t need to take as many products with me.  Thy also smell of chocolate which is a heavenly bonus!

I have recently discovered the Brow Tattoo from Maybelline and it is brilliant!  I am not big into doing much with my brows anyway, but this leaves them looking a little fuller but still natural and lasts for three days so saves time in a morning!  I will then just comb them through with the Browdrama which is just like mascara for the brows and they are sorted!

Maybelline has also been my go to mascara brand – I don’t think you can beat them!  I am currently using this one to finish off the day time look.

cof

My last step is to use a setting spray.  I am currently using this one which is fab and I also like the hydrating one from Elf, which helps stop my skin looking too dry.  In this weather, spraying your face with a nice cool mist is also very lovely!
