World Book Day is coming up and I know lots of schools have a dress up day as part of the celebrations. I know some parents find this really tricky and costumes can be expensive from stores, so I have come up with some ideas that use basic wardrobe items and things you can use again to help!

I dressed as Alice a couple of years ago (yes, teachers dress up as well!). For this, you just need a blue dress. I picked up a white apron and white tights cheaply on Amazon and then finished it off with a black headband and black shoes!

Harry

Grab a red tee and a pair of jeans and you are good to go! A bucketful of dinosaurs will help complete the look!

The Little Princess

Another simple idea – all that is needed is a white dress and a crown. You could even make the crown with your child!

Harry Potter/Hermione Granger

Some school uniform pieces can help with this one. Add some glasses and a lightening bolt scar for Harry of course! You could also throw on a cape to make it even more realistic. Don’t forget your wand!

Baby Bear

One of my brother’s favourite stories as a child! He’s off to space so needs his space boots (wellies) and a space hat (a colander). Add some red dungarees (or a red tee and trousers) and your little one is set for a space adventure!

Gangsta Granny

Add a grey curly wig and a black mask to a black skirt from the wardrobe and you are all set for this one!

Leah Williamson

Captain of the England Lionesses, Leah wrote this story and named the main character after herself. Leggings and a white tee and you will have your own lioness ready to score!

The Witch

Red top, blue skirt, plus a wand and a black hat and this look will be ready! This could also double up as a Halloween costume so get two for the price of one here!

Footballer

Find a book about their favourite player and let them dress up in their footy kit – if your child’s anything like my boys it will be pretty much all they wear anyway!

Matilda

Last year I was Miss Honey, but Matilda’s outfit is actually really similar to Alice’s! Add some white knee length socks as opposed to tights and switch the black headband for a red one and you are good to go and face the Trunchbull!

Wally

The iconic red and white stripey top paired with some black rimmed glasses and a pair of jeans and you are ready for the hunt as everyone’s favourite hide and go seeker!

I hope this has given you some inspiration for your little ones costume idea – please let me know if you decide to go with one of these ideas in the comments below!
