Blog Tour Book Review – Dyed Souls

AD | Gifted

Firstly – apologies! This post went up on Monday but I was having internet issues and couldn’t edit it to add my own review of the book, so it looked just like a ton of information about it! I definitely wanted to gt back on to add my thoughts as I LOVED this book!

Dyed Souls by Gary Santorella

Cover

The Blurb

Described by John Lloyd of The Bookbag as “Catcher in the Cuckoo’s Nest,” Dyed Souls is a gritty coming-of-age literary novel, set in a residential treatment center in 1980’s California. Charlie Lyle loves science, natural history, and the world of the mind, and it is his refuge and salvation as he copes with his drug-addicted mother and a world of circumstances well-beyond his grasp. More a work of philosophy than psychology,

“For the teen it has a galling coming-of-age, redemption quest. For the adult it has that, as well as a literary look at a singular fictional life.”

What I Thought

Wow, I absolutely flew through this one and loved every minute. It was the sort of book I found myself reaching for any time I had a spare minute as I wanted to find out what happened next.

It isn’t always a comfortable read and I would raise a flag here for anyone that would struggle with content surrounding child abuse (including sexual abuse).

Charlie is a likeable main character and you are desperate for him to succeed, which makes you want to keep reading, hoping he will get some sort of happily ever after. The story is gritty, real, sad, funny and has touching moments. I would recommend this book to all who would be okay with the content, a fantastic book and I will definitely look out for more from this author.
