It has been a little while since I did a Five Friday Favourites either here or on my Instagram so I thought it was about time I bought them back!
Today I am sharing five of my favourite podcasts that I have been listening to this week. I enjoy putting on a podcast while I walk the dog, am driving on my own or when i am cooking, cleaning etc.
The thrice-weekly podcast that’s smart, often silly and sometimes surprising. Absolutely everything is up for discussion: from pop culture to politics, body image to motherhood, feminism to fashion. Join Mamamia’s Holly Wainwright, Mia Freedman and Jessie Stephens as they cover what everyone’s talking about this week
This is one podcast I haven’t missed an episode of since I started listening well over a year ago. There are three episodes a week and the three amazing women who host it talk about a range of topics that are in the media at the moment. There is always a great mix of some serious news topics and then onto lighter topics and the three women don’t always agree, but discuss everything sensibly and with respect which is great.
It’s the first ever Sentimental Garbage mini-series: a big basket of episodes about Sex and the City! In this mini-series, author Dolly Alderton joins me as we spend each episode discussing every season of the TV show Sex and the City for the great American novel it truly is. This is not an episode by episode analysis but a look at each season as an individual piece of work, where we discuss the themes, character journeys and lasting messages of it. We examine the big thesis topics such as: The Corsage and Saddlebag Tragedy of Series Three, The Absence of Strap-ons in Sex and The City, and Big’s Weekend Shirts: Wide-fitting sleeves to house an absent soul. Crucially: we don’t know the most about Sex and the City, we just feel the most about Sex and the City.
Pour yourself a cocktail and ask yourself some huge questions about the McDougall family trust, and we’ll see you every Thursday for the next six weeks! (Plus maybe again for the movies, who knows)
I definitely want to listen to more of the Sentimental Garbage podcast as a whole, but this recommendation applies to their mini series – Sentimental in the City. If you are a huge Sex and the City fan like I am, you will love it! The ladies take a season per episode and discuss – the relationships, the fashion, everything! Made me start re-watching the whole series for the hundredth time too!
Are you in search of your next fix of podcast recommendations? Look no further than the podCAST Castaway, the podcast about podcasts. Hosted by broadcaster, performer, chancer and podcast lover Laura Whitmore, Laura is on a mission to uncover the best podcasts out there by interviewing a celebrity guest every week about what they’re listening to. Whether you’re looking for podcasts about mental health, comedy, love, crime or your next fictional series to binge listen to, Laura’s guests have got you covered.
This is a podcast about podcasts and I have found so many great listens from this. There have been some great guests and Laura is a fab host. An easy and interesting listen.
True Crime Conversations explores the world’s most notorious crimes by speaking to the people who know the most about them. Hosted by Jessie Stephens.
There are a few true crime podcasts I listen to but I chose this one to mention as it is one I listen to the most regularly, every time a new episode comes out. It is the second Mamamia podcast on the list and there are also lots more of their podcasts I listen to regularly and enjoy. Jessie covers both cases and crimes I have heard of and also some that I haven’t, so it is always an interesting listen.
In the Happy Mum, Happy Baby Podcast, Giovanna Fletcher continues the conversation about motherhood she began in her bestselling book of the same title. In a series of frank and warm conversations with other high-profile mums and dads, Gi discusses all aspects of parenthood – the highs, the lows, the challenges and rewards. There is no such thing as the perfect parent, and we’re all simply doing our best, something Giovanna fully encourages. It’s time to stop comparing ourselves and champion each other instead. Each episode is truly unique yet unifying. No topic is out of bounds, therefore this podcast is essential listening for any parent seeking solidarity and support. A Pixiu production.
Another one I have listened to for years now but still love. Gi is the perfect host, she is charming, kind, inquisitive and genuinely lovely. She has had some amazing guests on including Princess Kate which was a fab listen! Highly recommend to all parents who will love hearing about so many different parenting journeys on here.
So that is my five for Friday! I could have carried on as I listen to many more I love – let me know if you would like a part two to this post! I would also love to hear your podcast recommendations, please leave them in the comments below so I can check them out! Take care and have a great weekend everyone,
