The 12 Days of Blogmas – Day 2 – SMASH or PASS Book Tag

I saw this yesterday on One Book More and thought I would give it a go! You can check out her answers here and make sure you check out some of the great book reviews and other book themed blog posts as well!

Bookish Tropes

SMASH!! I wanted to say pass but if I am honest, if I have read a couple or three heavy thrillers, a good rom-com with a predictable cast of characters and a plot I have read in various forms over the years is just what I need!

Alternating POV

SMASH!! I love getting to see a story from a range of different perspectives and a lot of the books I have enjoyed in recent years have taken this format.

Ambiguous Endings

PASS!! I can’t cope with this and I have read a couple of books that have left me shell shocked and wondering for days about what happened! I am exactly the same with movies and TV shows like this.

Non/Fiction

SMASH!! I enjoy true crime as well as certain periods of history and read quite a lot of these.

Historical Setting

SMASH!! Depending on the period and genre I do enjoy a good historical fiction book as well. I have quite a few on my TBR pile from the second world war period that I am looking forward to getting stuck into.

Morally Grey Characters

SMASH!! Yes, yes, yes! As an avid thriller reader these are the characters you want in a story. They keep you guessing, wodering which side they will fall on or what they are going to do next.

First Person POV

SMASH!! I will generally enjoy a book written in the third or first person if it is well written – I think first person can be harder to get right but it doesn’t put me off giving on e a go.

Audio books

SMASH!! If you have read my book review posts you will generally see an audio book or two in there. I love an audio book for when I am driving, or when I am getting ready or doing the cleaning. My Audible membership is definitely something I love and get the most out of!

Re-Reading

SMASH!! I am definitely a re-reader, especially when it comes to my favorite books which include Little Women, The Outsiders and the Harry Potter series.

Classic Novels

SMASH!! I enjoy picking up a classic now and gain, and will sometimes re-read the ones I have read before as well. They aren’t always the easiest of reads so I don’t read them super often but I do like to challenge myself sometimes!

Annotating

PASS!! I left thus back at school/uni and unless it is for work/studying purposes this is something AI do not do anymore! i will occasionally screenshot quotes or passages I like!

Cracking Book Spines

SMASH. Unless it’s a special edition or a treasured book, I crack the spine. I also dog-ear the pages sometimes! Sorry! I know some of you are cringing right now!

Smut

Meh this is a PASS from me!! I read the Fifty Shades series (at least the first 2.5 until I got bored) and I also like the Call Girl series by Belle Du Jour, but they are not otherwise something I would choose to read. I prefer a rom-com type romance to a steamy one if I read that genre!

Character Driven Books

SMASH. I enjoy character driven stories. My favorites usually have a good balance of character and plot, though.

Past/Present Split Timeline

SMASH!! Dual timelines aren’t necessarily a favourite but I do enjoy them. I do prefer it to be explicit when the time is changing though as when it isn’t, it can confuse me very quickly and turn me right off a book.

Heavy World Building

SMASH!! I have already told you I am a Harry Potter fan so this is definitely one for me! I also really enjoy dystopian worlds such as in The Handmaid’s Tale.

I hope you have enjoyed reading my answers and if you want to, either share on your blog, tagging me so I can have a read of your answers, or answer in the comments below! I tag DASH FAN BOOK REVIEWS to play SMASH or PASS next!
